Each year we search for new and extraordinary off-the-beaten path adventures. For 2007 we've come up with 12 unique programs that meet our demanding standards for fun, adventure and quality.
Alaska Adventure Cruise. Our small ship cruise visits the hidden gems big ships never see. Explore millions of acres of Alaska's pristine coastal wilderness by zodiac, kayak and on foot. See whales, grizzlies, eagles, otters, salmon, ancient forests, calving glaciers and more!
Argentina-Chile Patagonia Hiker. Visit and hike through two UNESCO World Heritage Sites --Argentina's Los Glaciares and Chile's Torres del Paine-- and the most important national parks of Patagonia. This trip offers a perfect balance of the outdoors and creature comforts. Keep a watchful eye out for guanacos, lesser rheas, flamingos, condors and eagles as we explore this windswept land.
Belize-Caribbean Multi-Sport. Experience Belize's wild jungle and the turquoise waters of the barrier reef. With local guides, explore the jungle on foot and delight in a stunning variety of wildlife. Mountain bike quiet dirt trails, canoe the gentle Mopan River and snorkel crystal-clear Caribbean waters.
Bhutan "Shangri La" Multi-Sport. Bhutan, nestled in the heart of the great Himalaya, has for centuries remained aloof from the rest of the world. Since its doors were cautiously opened in 1974, visitors have been mesmerized: the environment is pristine, the scenery and architecture awesome and the people hospitable and charming.
Canadian Rockies Backcountry Hiker. Experience an alpine wonderland of wildflower-blanketed meadows, towering summits laden with glistening glaciers, and snow-fed sapphire lakes as we trek to two of Banff National Park's remote backcountry lodges. Enjoy the hospitality of our hosts and savor home-cooked meals served family style. Then venture out to explore the surrounding playground of forests, peaks, streams and lakes during the day and gaze at star-filled skies each night.
Costa Rica Caribbean Multi-Sport. So you think you've seen Costa Rica? Think again! This trip takes us well off-the-beaten tourist path to explore the best adventure destinations that this amazing country has to offer. Costa Rica, arguably the world's greatest nature/eco-adventure destination, offers far too much diversity to catch it all in one go. But if you only have one go, then make this one it!
Croatia Multi-Sport. Whatever your expections, you will be unprepared for the warmth of the welcome in Croatia. Experience on foot the wild beauty of Plitvice Jezera National Park, mountain bike through the countryside, whitewater raft and canyon the Cetina River. Sea kayak among the exquisite islands of the Adriatic Coast and explore the historic, picturesque cities of Split and Dubrovnik.
India Himalayan Hiker. The Markha Valley Trek is one of the most varied and beautiful treks in the world, venturing high into the Himalayas from the Indus Valley and through terrain that changes from incredibly narrow valleys to wide-open and vast expanses! It is made all the more interesting by the ancient form of Buddhism that flourishes in the many monasteries that dot the landscape perched high atop the hills. The trails are decorated by elaborate 'chortens' (shrines) and 'mani' (prayer) walls, reflective of the region's total immersion in Buddhist culture.
Italy Dolomites Hiker. The Dolomites, well known for sheer pinnacles and high walls, are the most stunning mountains to be found in the eastern Alps. This demanding but rewarding trek takes us through wildflower-filled alpine meadows, past blue and green lakes, and to well above tree line at over 10,000 feet. One of the area's most spectacular hikes leads to our hut at the base of the Tre Cimes Di Lavaredo, the Dolomites' best known landmark.
Morocco Multi-Sport. Lose yourself in the legendary hospitality of Morocco's exotic culture and breathtaking scenery. Climb the highest peak in North Africa, bike to remote mountain villages, ride camelback to stunning ocean beaches, explore the World Heritage Sites of Essaouira and Marrakesh and learn to windsurf!
Oaxaca "Mountains-to-the-Sea" Hiker. Hike through remote mountains and ancient villages. Explore the world class archeological sites of the Zapotec and Mixtec cultures. Experience the vibrant craft traditions of Oaxaca's pueblos. Then relax in the luscious warmth and tropical splendor of Mexico's secluded Oaxaca coast.
Turkey Multi-Sport Adventure Cruise. Explore Turkey's timeless Aegean coast by private yacht. Translucent turquoise seas, dramatic pine-forested coasts, ageless seaside villages and a dream world of ancient sites and cities -- Istanbul, Ephesus, Myndus, Halicarnassus, Caunus. Plus lots of stops for hiking, swimming, sightseeing, snorkeling, kayaking, rafting, village visits and just plain relaxing!
Vietnam Multi-Sport. Vietnam is a land of rich beauty. From tall mountains and limestone formations to dense jungles, river deltas, and pristine beaches--its ecological treasures alone make it a unique destination. Combine this with a wonderful and fascinating culture and history, and you'll soon experience why Vietnam is so special.
