NEW LEWIS AND CLARK EXPLORER MULTI-SPORT ADVENTURE

BOULDER, Colorado--Commemorate the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark Expedition by hiking, horseback riding and canoeing in the Montana wilderness where these explorers made history. This six-day multi-sport tour, offered by The World Outdoors, allows guests to experience the power of the Great Falls, appreciate the 18-mile portage that delayed the Corps of Discovery for a month, explore an ancient bison cliff jump, and discover authentic Blackfeet Indian teepee rings.

The adventure begins with an introduction to the expedition through film, dioramas, and interactive displays at the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center in Great Falls, Montana. Once guests have become familiar with these well-known explorers? adventures, they will discover for themselves the waterfalls and springs Lewis and Clark first documented.

The first two nights are spent at the Deep Canyon Guest Ranch in the Rocky Mountain Front. Guests will spend two glorious days hiking and horseback riding along mountain streams and through wildflower-carpeted meadows to points of panoramic vistas. Here Leslie Shaw, a member of the Blackfeet nation, provides enlightening insights into the culture and traditions of her people.

It's then off to the Upper Missouri River and the thundering power of the Great Falls. Dinner that evening at the Grand Union Hotel in the river town of Fort Benton will include a spellbinding discussion with Bob Doerk, a noted local historian.

The adventure wraps up with a memorable three-day, 47-mile canoe trip down the last free-flowing stretch of the Missouri River. Guests will paddle beneath sandstone cliffs and past igneous intrusions. They'll hike to Hole-in-the-Wall for grand views of the river and plains below. Elk, white-tailed deer, muskrats, bald eagles, and pelicans populate the area, which has changed little since Lewis and Clark made their mark two centuries ago.

Each night camp will be set up in the same locations where Lewis and Clark slept on their epic journey. Guests can rest assured, however, that while the locations are the same, the amenities are vastly different. Guests will sleep on padded cots in walk-in tents, and the menu will feature tasty meals to satisfy any appetite.

The World Outdoors offers six departure dates for this ideal six-day, five-night multi-sport adventure, beginning May 30; the last group heads out September 12. Two departures (June 6 and September 5) are reserved exclusively for solo travelers. Each group is accompanied by professional guides, who create a fun, relaxed atmosphere and deliver valuable insights into the flora, fauna, geology and history of the area.
