Day Hiking and Mountain Biking Descriptions
E=Easy ME=Moderately Easy
Ideal for those who feel comfortable being active 3-5 hours a day. Those who choose this level are generally looking for a leisurely vacation or an introduction to hiking and biking. Gentle terrain. Hikes of 4-6 miles with short ascents of up to 600 feet; bike rides of 20-25 mile/day on smooth dirt roads.
Hillier and more challenging than our Easy tours. Intended for the average active adult who feels comfortable being active 4-6 hours a day. Hikes of 4-8 miles with climbs of up to 1,200 feet; bike rides 20-30 miles/day.
M=Moderate C=Challenging
Trips for the more active adult who feels comfortable being active 5-7 hours a day. Hikes of 8-13 miles with climbs of up to 2,500 feet. Bike rides of 25-35 miles/day over a variety of terrain including challenging climbs & descents and singletrack trails. Good for experienced mountain bikers and fit adults confident and comfortable on their bike.
For adults who feel comfortable being active approximately 6-8 hours a day. High adventure cycling on the West s epic mountain bike trails. Mixed terrain including technical singletrack and sustained climbs of up to 2,500 feet. 25-40 miles.day.
Loop/Out & Back Trails
Begin and end at the same location. Allow the most flexibility in your daily itinerary. No shuttle is required.
One-Way Trails
Begin at one location and end at another. Usually used by mountain bikers. A shuttle is required and may include an additional fee.
Whitewater Rafting and Kayaking Descriptions
Class I Rapids Class II Rapids
Moving water with a few riffles and small waves. Few or no obstructions.
Easy rapids with waves up to three feet, and wide, clear channels that are obvious without scouting. Some maneuvering is required.
Class II Rapids Class IV Rapids
Rapids with high and irregular waves. Narrow passages that often require complex maneuvering. May require scouting from shore.
Long, difficult rapids with constricted passages that often require precise maneuvering in very turbulent waters. Scouting from shore is often necessary.
Class V Rapids
Extremely difficult, long, and very violent rapids with highly congested routes which nearly always must be scouted from shore.
Canyoneering and Rock Climbing Descriptions
BE=Beginner INT=Intermediate
Routes will be selected for those with little or no prior experience climbing, rappelling, setting handlines and lowering packs. Ideal for those looking for introduction to canyoneering and rock climbing
Routes selected for those with prior canyoneering and rock climbing experience and feel comfortable rappelling, setting handlines and lowering packs. Ideal for those looking for an adventurous day of canyoneering and rock climbing, and are interested in improving their technique.
ADV=Advanced
Routes selected for those who feel comfortable and confident in all aspects of canyoneering and rock climbing. These will be the most technically difficult routes available.
