Chile Patagonia Hiker
Hike amid Lakes, Peaks, Glaciers and Gauchos
From southernmost Chile's unspoiled wilderness of grey and white granite and sedimendary towers to its golden grasslands and turquoise glacial lakes, the rugged beauty of the Patagonian backcountry is simply spectacular. These dramatic landscapes are the backdrop for an adventure like no other. A local naturalist guide introduces you to his country as you hike amid enormous glaciers, pristine lakes, vast plateaus and ancient forests. This adventure of a lifetime promises to be epic!
Days 1-2 Punta Arenas-Puerto Natales-Torres del Paine. We begin the day with a reception at the Punta Arenas airport and head for the penguin colony at Otway Sound. Early the next day we shuttle across the Pampas to Torres del Paine National Park, where we boat across turquise Lake Pehoe, and then hike along the shore of Lago Grey with views of its massive namesake glacier.
Days 3-4 French Valley-Los Cuernos-Salto Grande. We hike in the amazing 4,000 foot deep French Valley to an amphitheater surrounded by the granite towers of the Paine Massif. We next hike to the Salto Grande and Lake Nordenskold where brilliant, red fire bushes and rugged snowy peaks accent its deep emerald waters.
Days 5-6 Rio Acensio Valley-Torres-Puerto Natales-Punta Arenas. Today, we hike to the foot of the park's most prominent features, the famous Paine Towers. Weather permitting, we'll have stupendous views of the three towers. We conclude with a shuttle back to Puerto Natales for our final evening dinner before flying out of Punta Arenas in the morning.
