Costa Rica Arenal and Pacuare Multisport Tour
Biking, Canyoning, Rafting, Hiking, Kayaking, Ziplining and Hot Springs Adventure
Costa Rica, arguably the world's greatest nature/eco-adventure destination, offers far too much diversity to catch all in one go. But if you only have one visit, then make this one it! Mountain bike and try canyoning in Turrialba. Raft for two days on the world-renowned Pacuare River and stay at an ecolodge deep in the rainforest. Experience hiking, kayaking, a zipline tour and a relaxing natural hot springs dip near Costa Rica's most active volcano – Arenal!
Days 1-2: San Jose - Turrialba
Welcome to Costa Rica! A representative will meet you upon arrival at the airport and whisk you away to our hotel just east of the city. The next day begins with a biking tour of the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE), one of the world’s premier centers dedicated to research and graduate education in tropical agriculture and the management, conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. We bike in and around the plantations and botanical gardens of CATIE. After lunch our adventure continues at Calle Chirraca, where a lush river environment is the site for our canyoning tour. This activity involves rappelling and descending cliffs and waterfalls within the canyon.
Days 3-4: Pacuare River - Rios Tropicales Eco-lodge
After an early breakfast we transfer to the rafting put-in on the Pacuare River. The first day's Class III rapids welcome you to the Pacuare gorge's charm as you raft deep in the heart of primary rainforest. Experience the Costa Rican feeling of “pura vida”—pure life—as you frolic on the river, spot the flash of the bluemorpho butterfly and see an abundance of birds—egrets, herons, vultures, kingfishers and the Montezuma Oropendola. Before we know it, we’ll arrive at the unique Rios Tropicales Lodge where we spend the afternoon relaxing, hiking or soaking in the waterfall and pools.
Days 5-7: Cerro Chato - Lake Arenal - Arenal Volcano - Departure
Today we climb the Chato Volcano to views of the crater emerald waters. Animals we might see are howler monkeys, ant-eater, wild turkey, nose bears and smaller but intriguing animals like bullet ants, frogs and spiders. Enjoy spectacular views the next morning as we glide through Lake Arenal in our kayaks while observing a number of bird species. This afternoon we enjoy the ultimate rush of Sky Trek. We ride an open-air gondola from the ground to the heights where we’re dropped off at an observation deck for fantastic views of the volcano before returning to the ground below by riding down nearly two miles of cables on a circuit of zip lines stretching across canyons and between treetops. In the evening we visit Eco Termales Hot Springs for a much-deserved soak and farewell dinner. We're off to the airport in the morning where we say, "hasta luego"...until we meet again on another tour with The World Outdoors.
