New Mexico Hiking Tour
Hike through the Land of Enchantment
Our journey begins in the colorful desert and alpine wilderness set outside of lively Santa Fe. Our trails then transport us to a magical Anasazi settlement and on to Ghost Ranch where we soak up the pastel-hued landscapes that inspired Georgia O'Keefe. Making our way to Taos, we explore magnificent canyons, traditional pueblos, and lush alpine meadows. Add flavorful southwestern cuisine and distinctive inns, and you'll discover firsthand why New Mexico is referred to as the "Land of Enchantment".
Days 1-2 Santa Fe-Tent Rocks-Atalaya Mountain. In Santa Fe, the exquisite Inn on the Alameda is our home base for exploring outlying trails. Our first hike features unusual volcanic deposits at Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument followed by an afternoon stroll through some of the city's finest art galleries. We then hike through pinon and juniper forest to the summit of Atalaya Mountain with its sweeping views of Santa Fe, the Jenez Mountains, Sandia Peak and the Rio Grande River Valley.
Days 3-4 Bandelier-Ghost Ranch. At Bandelier National Monument we travel through a designated wilderness area before dropping into Frijoles Canyon at the center of an ancient Anasazi civilization. The following day we experience the inspiration behind Georgia O'Keefe's most notable paintings as we hike the canyons and mesas of Ghost Ranch.
Days 5-6 Sangre de Cristo Mountains-Taos. High in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, we explore a far different world of alpine beauty. Take the afternoon to explore Taos, its galleries, and its 600-year-old pueblo. Before concluding in Santa Fe, we hike into the Rio Grande's pristine inner gorge.
