Peru Machu Picchu
Multi-Sport or Hiker

Hike or Hike, Bike and Raft from the Andes to the Amazon

The towering, snow-capped peaks and deep river valleys of the Andes provide some of the most spectacular scenery found on earth. Nestled within are some of Peru's most fascinating destinations--the Sacred Valley of the Incas, the mountain lands of Machu Picchu, and the Amazon River Basin. Take this inspiring adventure and experience a vibrant culture, bike through local villages, raft exhilarating whitewater, shop in open markets, and hike to Machu Picchu.

Day 1 Cusco. Beginning in Cusco, the historic capital of the Inca Empire, we take a historic walking tour thoroughly exploring its most important sites, cathedrals and busy markets.

Days 2-3 Pisac-Ollantaytambo. From 10,000 feet, we cycle downhill from the village of Pisac, an indigenous town featuring a renowned market, and then into the Sacred Valley alongside the Urubamba River. The next day we raft its Class II-III rapids and continue with a hike to the Fortress of Ollantaytambo for a guided tour through its ancient, stone streets.

Days 4-7 Inca Trail-Machu Picchu. Begin with a relative easy trail to Llactapata ruins. Cross the highest point on the trail at 14,000 feet on the next day, then head down to the Rio Pacaymayo valley. Next climb steeply to the ruins of Runcuracay and Sayacmarca. From Phuyupatamarca, a third set of ruins, descend to Winay Wayna and our first views of Machu Picchu through the "Gate of the Sun". After exploring the site, relax in the comforts of our luxurious lodge.

Days 8-9 Machu Picchu-Cusco. Sunrise at Macchu Picchu is a special treat. After a morning of further exploration at the site, we take the train back to Cusco and catch departing flights the following morning.

The above describes the 9-day inn & camping itinerary. For the 6-day inn-based itinerary, Day 4 offers the train ride to Machu Picchu followed by a hike to the Winay Wayna ruins, "Gate of the Sun", and Machu Picchu. Days 5-6 are the same as Days 8-9 on the 9-day tour.

Use of the Inca Trail is regulated with a quota system. Spaces on the trail fill up early so we strongly suggest that you book this trip as far in advance as possible. We will need your passport number at the time of booking in order to reserve your space on the Inca Trail. This applies to both the 6-day and 9-day versions of the trip.
